A lab created diamond starts off with a small seed containing a natural diamond. The lab setting mimics the conditions found deep within the Earth by producing extreme heat and pressure, which allows the seed to grow into a beautiful diamond. The whole process, within a lab setting, takes up to 3 weeks compared to billions of years under natural conditions.

The fundamental difference between a lab diamond and a natural diamond is the amount of time required for the diamond to form.

Lab grown diamonds go by various names which could include: curated diamonds, man-made diamonds, man-created diamonds, synthetic diamonds. All these names refer to lab grown diamonds which have identical properties to natural diamonds.

Lab created diamonds are physically, optically and chemically identical to natural diamonds. It is nearly impossible to tell them apart.

Typically, lab grown diamonds are made under controlled environments and hence, produce a more consistent quality compared to natural diamonds.

Continuous technological improvements in the production of lab diamonds had a direct impact on the declining cost over the past five years. You can expect to pay ~80% less for a lab diamond than a mined diamond.

No, not even the most trained gemologist could tell them apart. The larger natural diamond companies have spent years developing expensive machinery to tell them apart. , However, these machines are not available in the majority of labs.

All of our lab diamonds have an inscription (visible only with a 10x magnification scope) confirming their status as lab diamonds.

Currently, it takes a lab grown diamond approximately two weeks to grow up to a 1 carat size.  In the future, it is expected that the entire process will take hours instead of weeks.

Lab grown diamonds can grow to very large sizes depending on how much time they are left in the lab.

A diamond simulant is NOT the same thing as a lab grown diamond or even a natural diamond. A diamond simulant does not have the same chemical, optical or physical properties as a mined/lab grown diamond. The only similarity between an authentic diamond and a diamond simulant may be the shape and the cut of the stone. Diamond simulants will not shine as bright as real diamonds once its has left the confines of a brightly light store.

POLAR operates as a private jeweller so we take clients by appointment only. The reason for operating this way vs being a walk-in retail store is to offer the very best customer service and lowest prices to all of our customers.

During your appointment at one of our Canadian showrooms you will be able to view loose stones, browse and try on a large selection of existing designs, or customize a design specifically for you.

We also offer end-to-end virtual services for customers that can not physically visit one of our Canadian showrooms.

All rings are made to order and at the moment our turnaround time is approximately 2-5 weeks. The total time is largely dependent on the degree of customization required.

Payments are split into a deposit/final payment structure. We take a 50% deposit to source your stone and initiate your ring design, and the final 50% of your order will be due once you recieve the finished piece.

We start the process of designing your dream ring by creating digital renderings so that you will be able to see exactly what your ring will look like from all angles, prior to its creation. Yes, every lab grown diamond will come with a lab certificate. This document will outline the various attributes of the stone, including the cut, colour and clarity grade.

We offer free mock up rings. These are perfect for surprise proposals, or situations in which you want to involve your parter in the final design after the proposal.
